ENTSOG and ENTSO-E (hereafter the ENTSOs) have combined their TYNDP processes for the first time by applying ENTSOs draft consistent and interlinked electricity and gas model in their scenario development for TYNDP 2018, based on Regulation (EU) 347/2013 and discussions with EC and ACER.

On the basis of the work already undertaken, Artelys will assist the ENTSOs in their investigation of the interlinkages between gas and electricity scenarios and infrastructure projects. The study will benefit from Artelys expertise in multi-energy modelling. The quantitative assessments will be carried out with the Artelys Crystal Super Grid software solution, which includes a joint gas and electricity model.

The objectives of the study are to:

• Map all possible interactions between the gas and electricity sectors (including on the end-user side, or interactions related to electricity and gas prices)
• Qualitatively and quantitatively understand the impacts electricity and gas infrastructure projects can have on each other in typical situations
• Propose a screening methodology to identify the infrastructure projects where a further investigation of the interlinkages should be carried out by the ENTSOs

The outputs of this study will be part of the elements on which the ENTSOs will base themselves when updating their Interlinked Model. The updated Interlinked Model is expected to be used for the first time during the TYNDP 2020 process.
